Spectranet expands LTE to Abuja

29 Nov 2013

Nigerian wireless broadband provider Spectranet has announced the expansion of its LTE network to Abuja, offering residential and business customers data services at maximum download speeds of 4Mbps, local newspaper THIS DAY reports. Spectranet first launched its TD-LTE network in August and plans to expand services to other cities, including Ibadan, Kano and Port Harcourt, in the near future. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Spectranet was awarded a 2.3GHz spectrum licence in May 2009 and went on to launch a commercial WiMAX network in Lagos in October 2011. In September 2012 DragonWave announced that Spectranet had selected its Horizon product family to deliver high capacity, 4G/LTE-ready wireless backhaul networks. The operator rolled out DragonWave’s Compact Plus and Quantum products to backhaul internet, voice and data services.
