Trivon snaps up MegaMax; ‘more acquisitions to come’

26 Nov 2013

Trivon, the Switzerland-based company which does business under the ‘Virgin Connect’ brand in Russia, has announced the acquisition of MegaMax, a broadband operator based in the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to East-West Digital News the MegaMax Group has developed its own extensive fibre-optic network in its service area and mainly serves business users. The company was founded by local technology guru Eduard Fiyaksel, also an executive at the local branch of the Higher School of Economics. MegaMax is currently managed by Fiyaksel’s former student turned business partner, Nikolay Zotov. Going forward, Markus Mueller, co-CEO Trivon has indicated that ‘more [acquisitions] are to come in the near future’.

TeleGeography notes that the expansion plans are at odds with recent rumours concerning the Virgin Group’s withdrawal from Russia. In February 2013 CommsUpdate reported that Richard Branson’s group had distanced itself from plans to launch as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in Russia, with the tycoon also said to be considering calling time on long-running WiMAX provider Trivon.
