KT, NTT DOCOMO launch auto Wi-Fi EAP-based roaming

26 Nov 2013

South Korea’s PTO KT Corp and Japanese telecoms giant NTT DOCOMO have launched a Wi-Fi Roaming Exchange solution in cooperation with global multi-service internetwork packet exchange (IPX) solution provider Aicent. According to a joint press release, the two companies’ subscribers can seamlessly and securely roam between the two operators’ network hotspots, allowing them to automatically connect through Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), which utilises credentials contained in the SIM card to automatically access a Wi-Fi network without the need of a pre-established password.

NTT DOCOMO’s director of international roaming Yuichi Kato said: ‘By integrating Aicent’s Wi-Fi Roaming Exchange solution we are able to offer KT subscribers traveling to networks in Japan a transparent and quality roaming experience as they roam within our network of Wi-Fi hotspots.’
