NTT DOCOMO develops LTE-compatible multiband indoor base station

Japanese telecoms giant NTT DOCOMO has announced that it has developed an indoor base station and antenna, compatible with the 1500MHz, 1700MHz and 2000MHz frequency bands; the equipment is suitable for Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, and supports maximum downlink transmission speeds of 150Mbps. According to a company press release, the new multi-band station and antenna are the same size as the current single band antenna, and can fit into limited spaces in indoor locations; the commercial deployment of the equipment will start today in selected locations in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Aichi, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures. The new base station and antenna are compatible with 3G/W-CDMA, 4G/LTE and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) carrier aggregation technologies, and will be able to support maximum downlink speeds of 225Mbps from March 2016, when NTT DOCOMO plans to launch its LTE-A service.
