United Arab Emirates telecoms operator Du has invited applications from wireless subscribers looking to switch to the operator ahead of the planned introduction of mobile number portability (MNP) next month. Emirates 24/7 reports that mobile users can send an SMS to 3553 in order to indicate interest in moving from Etisalat to Du and to be notified as soon as MNP is available. ‘We have many firsts to our credit, and we are delighted to announce that now we are also the first telecom operator to offer people in the UAE the option to indicate their interest in switching to Du and experience the freedom of MNP,’ commented Du’s chief commercial officer Fahad AlHassawi. Last month CommsUpdate reported that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) had announced that the long-awaited introduction of MNP would finally take place by the end of the year, helping to increase competition in the mobile market.
