20 Nov 2013

US-backed cableco UPC Cablecom has announced that it has signed a deal to provide backhaul services to local mobile network operator Orange Switzerland for the cellco’s 4G network. Under the terms of the two year deal, Cablecom will connect more than 1,000 4G towers with transmission speeds of between1Gbps and 10Gbps, the first 70 of which are expected to be linked up by the end of this year. The pact will help Orange quickly implement its strategy for 4G and will bolster the mobile offerings of Cablecom, which provides wireless services via a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with Orange. Marco Quinter, the managing director for business services at Cablecom commented: ‘This contract is the biggest so far for our business customer segment and is a sign of confidence.’
