Zon Optimus confirm slight revenue drop in first post-merger results

Zon Optimus (Zopt), the Portuguese telecoms operator formed via the merger of domestic operators Zon Multimedia and Optimus earlier this year, has reported operating revenues of EUR1.115 billion (USD1.501 billion) for the nine month period ended 30 September 2013, down 1.9% on a pro forma basis. EBITDA for 9M2013 increased 2.9% on a pro forma basis, reaching EUR428.6 million, while CAPEX was raised 18.8% to EUR234 million. In operational terms, the number of consolidated fixed broadband accesses increased 5.5% to 917,100, while fixed voice customers grew 2.1% to 1.777 million. Meanwhile, mobile customers dropped 2.9% to 3.598 million on an annualised basis.

Zon Optimus CEO Miguel Almeida commented: ‘In 3Q13 the merger between Zon and Optimus was concluded.
