Viettel to launch in early 2014

15 Nov 2013

Vietnamese-backed newcomer to the Peruvian market, Viettel Peru has set its sights on launching commercial services in early 2014, El Comercio writes. According to Hoang Quoc Quyen, the cellco’s general manager, the company has installed around 70% of its network, and expects to complete the final 30%, most of which is in the capital, by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Viettel has completed its obligation to provide fibre-optic broadband to 2,000 public schools.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Viettel was originally due to begin commercial services in January 2013 but was only able to activate networks in Huarochiri, Huaura, Chinca, Ica and Trujilo on a trial basis at that date.
