Sprint snags Ohio licences from Revol Wireless; future looks bleak for regional cellco

15 Nov 2013

Regional carrier Revol Wireless is selling a total of twelve 1900MHz PCS spectrum licences in the Ohio area to Sprint. According to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) documents, as revealed by Fierce Wireless, Sprint is buying the concessions in order to bolster the capacity of its networks in the region.

The transaction appears to be part of a wider effort by Revol Wireless to shore up its struggling business. A person familiar with the matter told Fierce Wireless that the regional operator is working to wind down its business and sell off its customer base. In the company’s FCC filing it warns that it will be forced to terminate its service if it is unable to transition its customers to another carrier.
