Cyta designated as universal service provider until end-July 2014

15 Nov 2013

Cypriot telecoms watchdog Office of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications & Postal Regulation (OCECPR) has announced its Decision dated 12 November 2013, which extends the validity of a previous Decision, ADP170, from March 2011. The earlier document established incumbent telco Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta) as the country’s universal telecoms service provider. According to a press release, Cyta will remain the country’s designated universal service provider until end-July 2014.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the OCECPR launched a tender to select universal telecoms service providers in October 2010, with a closing date for submissions set as 11 January 2011. With no new applicants at the time, the role remained filled by Cyta.
