China Mobile has awarded Alcatel-Lucent 24% of its overall Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network rollout, which the French-US vendor says makes it the primary EPC supplier supporting the Chinese giant’s 4G LTE mobile broadband network. Under the contract, Alca-Lu will provide a solution consisting of: Service Router – Mobile Gateway; Wireless Mobility Manager; and Services Aware Manager (SAM).
In September China Mobile selected Alca-Lu to deploy an 11% portion of its LTE radio access network (RAN) by end-2013, alongside similar RAN contracts with several other vendors.
