Etisalat registers 75% of subscriber base

12 Nov 2013

Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) has announced that it has registered 75% of its mobile customers ahead of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA’s) deadline of 16 January 2014. Launched in July 2012, the watchdog’s SIM re-registration campaign ‘My Number, My Identity’ is being implemented in collaboration with the UAE’s two licensed telecoms operators, Etisalat and Du, to increase awareness of new registration procedures for mobile services. It requires subscribers to update their personal data and ensure that their SIM cards are registered under their name to prevent misuse. Those who fail to register their mobile number by the January deadline risk having their mobile phone services interrupted and eventually disconnected. Etisalat customers can update their information at Etisalat business centres or outlets, as well as around 40 locations for partners including OnTime, Leader, Fixit, Injazat and Wathiq.
