Aircel begins LTE trials, no plans for commercial launch soon

11 Nov 2013

Malaysian-backed cellco Aircel has begun testing 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in Andhra Pradesh, although a commercial launch is some way off, the Economic Times cites a company official as saying. Aircel’s head of business for the circle, Deepinder Tiwana commented the company could not yet support offering 4G services to the public: ‘We don’t have the required ecosystem, including the 4G-enabled mobile handsets, to launch services commercially.’ Tiwana added that at present around 44% of Aircel’s subscribers in Andhra Pradesh used mobile data services, and 12% were 3G subscribers.

India, Aircel
