UPC Ireland reports strong third quarter performance

7 Nov 2013

Irish cable TV, broadband and telephony provider UPC Ireland has reported a solid set of results for the three months ended 30 September 2013, with the total number of subscribers on its books climbing a net 70,800 (7%) over the year to a record 1.04 million. In July-September alone, the cableco added a net 18,400 subscriptions, fuelled by its deployment of ultra-high speed fibre broadband services and an improved suite of TV and voice call bundles. Indeed, UPC says that the launch of its Horizon TV package in September this year has resulted in 30,000 new customers for the company, while the introduction of the Setanta Sports Plus Pack has also helped boost numbers.

By 30 September UPC Ireland had a total of 336,700 digital cable TV subscribers and 330,000 broadband customers – with the latter increasing 12% year-on-year. In addition, the company reported 279,100 telephony users, up 25% on an annualised basis.

Commenting on the results, UPC Ireland CFO Carol Grennan, said: ‘UPC Ireland has delivered another outstanding quarter, led by the continuing strength of our market position in high speed Internet, TV, Phone and business services … through our fibre power network, UPC is enabling and driving digital adoption by homes and businesses across Ireland where the superior performance of our network ensures that our customers are always online, using multiple devices and can access more content than with any other operator.’ The cableco’s fibre network now reaches 746,000 Irish households.
