AT&T encroaches on Verizon after increasing LTE market total to 461

AT&T Mobility has confirmed that it has activated its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in 14 new markets, taking its total number of areas covered by the 4G technology to 461. New towns/cities covered by the mobile giant are: Fairbanks Metropolitan Area (Alaska); Galesburg, Macomb and Peoria (Illinois); Des Moines (Iowa); Madisonville and Maysville (Kentucky); Cumberland (Maryland); St Cloud (Minnesota); St Joseph (Missouri); Roanoke Rapids (North Carolina); Gettysburg (Pennsylvania); Big Spring (Texas) and Winchester (Virginia).

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Verizon Wireless continues to dominate in terms of LTE connectivity, covering more than 500 markets and 95% of the population. AT&T ranks in second place, ahead of T-Mobile US (233 LTE markets) and Sprint (230).
