Econet Wireless has invested USD1.2bn in Zimbabwe

Econet Wireless, the country’s largest cellco in terms of subscribers, has revealed that it has invested over USD1.2 billion in the country over the 15 years of its operation, Agence Ecofin reports. According to the article, Econet Wireless CEO Douglas Mboweni has revealed that the company has paid the government more than USD815 million in the form of taxes, fees and charges, while the shareholders of the company have received over USD190.5 million in dividends. Further, the company has already spent USD180 million on infrastructure upgrades in 2013.
