Softbank attributes 72.7% growth in revenue in 1H FY14 to Sprint

Japanese telecoms giant Softbank Group has published its financial results for the six months ended 30 September 2013, reporting a 72.7% year-on-year increase in net sales to JPY2.599 trillion (USD26.44 billion), mainly attributed to sales of JPY760.941 billion generated by its newly-acquired US unit Sprint. In the first half of the fiscal year ending 31 March 2014 (1H FY2014), the company reported net profit of JPY428.873 billion, a 76.8% improvement y-o-y on the JPY242.528 billion reported in the corresponding period of FY2013, with the surge mainly attributed to the consolidation of online game maker Gungho Online Entertainment. The group’s EBITDA also increased to JPY816.0 billion in the period under review, a 39% improvement compared to the JPY587.8 billion reported at end-September 2012.

In operational terms, Softbank reported a consolidated customer base of 34.07 million at end-September 2013, up by 11.85% from 30.46 million subscribers reported on 30 September 2012, corresponding to over one and a half million net additions in the twelve month period.
