MakTel announces launch of 1Gbps T-Home Optic Giga service

30 Oct 2013

Macedonian incumbent fixed line operator Makedonski Telekom (MakTel) has announced the launch of its fastest home internet service yet, with the introduction of an Optic Giga service promising maximum connections of 1Gbps. Available to its T-Home customers, the on-demand service does not require the installation of additional equipment, the company says, and users can take advantage of the product without signing a long-term contract. In a press release, MakTel said: ‘This is the first service of this type with which a customer who does not have internet access can connect to a broadband internet service at home literally instantly when he or she needs it, without installing additional equipment and without concluding a contract, and pay only for the days in which he or she needs the service.’ The telco claims that its new Optic Giga service marks a first for the region, and makes it one of the few countries in the world to offer a 1Gbps service for residential customers. MakTel is using its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network to carry the offer, and says it has invested more than EUR25 million (USD34.4 million) in the infrastructure to date.
