Fibre rollout passes halfway point

Colombia’s national fibre-optic network, which is currently being deployed by Azteca Communications, has so far connected 4523 municipalities, reports TeleSemana. The completed work represents around 60% of the project, and has connected more than two million Colombians and 1,052 institutions. By the end of the programme, in June 2014, the fibre network will cover 753 municipalities and more than 2,000 institutions. To date, Aztec Communications has rolled out 13,575km of fibre across 17 departments, namely: Antioquia, Bolivar, Boyaca, Caldas, Cesar, Cordoba, Cundinamarca, Guajira, Magdalena, Meta, Narino, Norte de Santander, Quindio, Risaralda, Santander, Sucre and Tolima.
