DStv Mobile, the mobile television division of South African pay-TV firm MultiChoice, has announced that it has launched a mobile TV streaming service in association with Mozambican mobile operator mCel, the country’s largest operator by subscribers. The duo are offering the option of a free, one-off 24-hour trial, following which users can subscribe to one of three subscription packages: Daily MZN30 (USD1, 40MB allowance), Weekly MZN150 (160MB allowance), or Monthly MZN299 (320MB data allowance).

TeleGeography notes that DStv has an existing mobile TV presence in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia and Uganda. The research firm’s GlobalComms Database adds that the option of streaming DStv mobile TV channels over 3G networks was previously launched to DStv users via cellular operator tie-ups in some of these markets including Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia, whereas in other countries the service is available exclusively over DStv’s DVB-H broadcast network.
