MegaFon subsidiary NetByNet acquires regional ISP duo

23 Oct 2013

NetByNet, the internet service provider (ISP) acquired by MegaFon for USD270 million in June 2011, has reportedly acquired two regional broadband players, as it seeks to aggressively grow its footprint. According to an unconfirmed report by Telecompaper, NetByNet has swooped for LNT, which operates in the town of Lobnya, (near Moscow), and Tver-based Ratmir Telecom. No purchase price has been disclosed. The dual acquisition is expected to add around 12,000 residential subscribers to NetByNet’s 700,000-strong user base, in addition to around 1,500 new corporate subscriber accounts.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, MegaFon’s 2011 takeover of NetByNet effectively paved the way for the cellco’s long-coveted entrance into the lucrative Moscow broadband market. Since then MegaFon has used NetByNet to snap up a series of regional broadband operators.
