Verizon sales total USD30.3bn in 3Q13; adds 6.8m LTE users q-o-q

US telecoms giant Verizon Communications has reported revenues of USD30.3 billion for the three months ended 30 September 2013, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year. Consolidated operating income for the third quarter was USD7.1 billion, up 30.0% on an annualised basis, while EBITDA grew 16.9% on a twelve-month basis, totalling USD11.3 billion in 3Q13. Net income for the July-September period totalled USD5.6 billion, compared to USD4.3 billion one year earlier.

In operational terms, mobile unit Verizon Wireless saw its retail subscriber base grow 5.5% to 101.2 million. The cellular unit added 1.061 million retail customers on a net basis in the third quarter, including 927,000 net post-paid additions; as at 30 September smartphones constituted 67% of Verizon Wireless’ post-paid user base. In addition, Verizon confirmed sales of 6.8 million Long Term Evolution (LTE)-suitable devices in the third quarter, while 64% of its total data traffic is now carried over its 4G network.
