Solomon Telekom confirms plans to roll out new mobile sites by year-end

Solomon Telekom (Our Telekom), a company majority owned by the people of Solomon Islands through the Solomon Islands National Provident Fund (NPF), has confirmed that by December 2013, 26 new mobile sites will be operational in a number of rural locations across the country. The rollout will include 14 new sites in Malaita, as well as a dozen ew sites spanning other provincial locations, namely; Western, Isabel, Choiseul, Makira, Central, Temotu and Guadalcanal. Solomon Telekom says that civil works are currently underway at most of the locations, following which it will begin the necessary technical installations of equipment and commissioning of the sites. Further, the operator said that plans are underway to deliver a better mobile footprint in rural areas, in addition to which, all mobile sites across the country will be upgraded to enable data communication going forward.
