Vodafone Australia opens LTE network to pre-paid subscribers

17 Oct 2013

While access to its 4G network has so far only been open to post-paid subscribers, Vodafone Australia has announced that from today pre-paid customers in metropolitan capital cities will be able to take advantage of the higher-speed infrastructure. In confirming the development, the cellco has also revealed that as part of a second phase – which will start from mid-November – new pre-paid customers will also be able to access the 4G network. Indeed, from mid-November Vodafone Australia has said that pre-paid customers will be automatically activated for 4G access when they purchase a new 4G SIM, while the operator is increasing the data allowances offered by some of its pre-paid tariffs; its AUD40 (USD38) plan will, for example, now offer 1GB of data, up from 750MB.

Commenting on the development, Vodafone Australia’s chief marketing officer Kim Clarke was cited as saying: ‘We’re rewarding our existing pre-paid customers by transitioning them to our superfast wide-band 4G network first. Some have been with Vodafone for many years and we want to ensure their move to 4G is a smooth one … All our existing Vodafone pre-paid customers who are living, working or on holidays in a 4G coverage area will be able to access Vodafone’s faster 4G network.’
