POTRAZ falls under President's Office and Cabinet

Zimbabwe’s Office of the President and Cabinet has reportedly been given the responsibility to oversee the country’s telecoms watchdog, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (POTRAZ) in an effort to ‘improve regulatory independence’. TechZim reports that Alfred Marisa, POTRAZ’s deputy director general, has confirmed the development, adding: ‘Regulatory independence is guaranteed by separating the regulatory body from all organisations providing communication networks, equipment or services. Hence the move to separate POTRAZ from the Ministry that supervises the sector is in line with international best practice.’ Prior to the new arrangement, POTRAZ reported to the Ministry of Transport, Communications & Infrastructural Development, a ministry created by the Administration of Post & Telecommunications Act (2000), which also established POTRAZ.
