FastWeb FTTH rollout underway in Palermo

15 Oct 2013

Italian internet service provider (ISP) FastWeb has announced that its deployment of fibre-optic broadband infrastructure in Palermo is well underway. The EUR50 million (USD67.8 million) project will ultimately see 100Mbps fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connectivity offered to 241,000 households and 45,000 business premises across the city. As such, FastWeb will deploy 400km of fibre to link 1,180 cabinets – 80% of which have already been connected, and 34% are said to be active. The rollout, which leverages both FastWeb’s existing network in the city and the local municipality’s infrastructure, is expected to be completed in March 2014.
