GTA, a provider of fixed and mobile telephony, internet access and digital television services in Guam, has announced the commercial launch of 4G LTE services in the northern and central areas of the island. There are no additional fees or charges for existing GTA wireless data customers to access the new network, though a 4G LTE capable handset is required, such as Apple’s iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE and S4 LTE. ‘Today, a vast majority of our customers are smartphone users and rely heavily on the use of mobile data,’ commented Robert Haulbrook, president and CEO at GTA, adding: ‘With the launch of 4G LTE and our ability to provide our customers with the latest 4G LTE handsets, our post-paid wireless customers can now enjoy faster data speeds at no additional cost to their current plan.’ LTE is currently available in key areas where most 3G data traffic occurs, including the villages of Agana, Agana Heights, Asan, Agat, Barrigada, Chalan Pago, Dededo, Mangilao, Sinajana, Tamuning, Tumon and Yigo, although the company plans to expand coverage to new locations in 2014.

The rollout of LTE by GTA follows earlier launches of the 4G technology in Guam by IT&E (July 2012), DoCoMo Pacific (October 2012) and iConnect (March 2013), notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
