9 Oct 2013

Belgium’s Belgacom has called on Cisco to provide it with its Aggregated Services Router (ASR) 5000 with a view to enabling ‘the evolution of its network and provide subscribers with superior mobile internet experiences’. It is understood that the ASR 5000 will provide the foundation for the LTE network operated by Belgacom’s mobile unit, allowing it to deliver higher bandwidth and greater intelligence for faster mobile internet services and an enhanced user experience for subscribers. Further, the solution will reportedly allow for the unified management of the operator’s existing 2G and 3G services.

Commenting on the deal, Laurent Claus, Belgacom’s vice-president for customer ICT services, was cited as saying: ‘We pride ourselves on enabling innovative new services for our subscribers, and through our work with Cisco we are able to offer greatly increased speed and capacity with the confidence that we have a platform to support future growth.’
