T-Mobile Austria has announced that its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, which was previously only available to customers with USB dongles, is now compatible with a range of smartphones, including the HTC One, Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The network supports theoretical transmission speeds of up to 100Mbps/50Mbps (down/uplink), and customers subscribing to the ‘Smart Net’ package pay EUR9.99 (USD13.56) per month for a 6GB data allowance. However, speeds drop to just 64kbps when the monthly download limit has been reached.
Meanwhile, in an update to its operational footprint, the cellco notes that it now covers almost one million people in Graz, Innsbruck, Linz and Vienna with LTE technology. Going forward, Bregenz, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and St Polten have all been earmarked for connectivity, and T-Mobile expects to cover two million Austrians with LTE by end-2013.
