ETB to launch mobile network, scrap MVNO

4 Oct 2013

State backed broadband provider Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) has announced major investment plans for next year, including the launch of its own mobile network, TeleSemana writes, citing local paper Portafolio. Having purchased 30MHz of AWS (1700MHz/2100MHz) spectrum in June this year in partnership with Tigo Colombia, ETB intends to scrap its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) arm in favour of operating its own network. ETB will also invest around USD600 million on upgrades to its fixed line network, including the rollout of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) to 700,000 homes by the end of 2014 and the launch of IPTV services.
