Agence Ecofin reports that Zimbabwean cellco NetOne has begun disconnecting unidentified SIM cards on its network. The telecoms watchdog POTRAZ had introduced a grace period for registration, but the deadline passed on 31 August. Rival operator Telecel has also begun disconnecting unregistered users, with some 100,000 accounts terminated, although 90% of the disconnections were said to classified as inactive accounts; only 10,000 active Telecel subscribers were disconnected due to non-registration.
