Hanging on the telephone? Telecom NZ turns phone boxes into Wi-Fi hotspots

27 Sep 2013

Telecom New Zealand is set to transform its public phone box network into a national Wi-Fi hotspot network, and has noted that around 700 such locations will be active by 7 October. Going forward, by mid-2014 Telecom expects to have around 2,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in service. Post-paid Telecom Mobile customers – as well as pre-paid users with a deal worth more than NZD19 (USD15.7) – will be given a 1GB daily data allowance, while other users will have to pay NZD9.95 for the privilege.
