In a move that could pave the way for their anticipated operational merger, Cosmote Romania and Romtelecom have announced a number of common executive positions to begin next month, including chief commercial officer and chief technology and operations officer. Starting 1 October six new common manager positions will report directly to Nikolai Beckers, the recently appointed chief executive officer of both countries.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in June 2013 the incoming CEO reiterated that his primary focus was on transforming the duo into a ‘functional, efficient’ group providing an integrated service. While clarifying that an operational merger is still at a preliminary stage, he commented: ‘From my perspective, the economic logic of the merger of the two companies is obvious. We have discussed fixed-mobile convergence services, which [currently] come from two operators. A fluent business without any interruptions is better’.
