The Argentine government has allocated ARS8.186 billion (USD1.42 billion) for the telecoms market under its draft budget for 2014, reports local business newspaper El Cronista. The funds will be invested in the expansion of digital TV, broadband internet and satellite communications services across the country, as well as the ongoing implementation of the government’s ‘Argentina Conectada’ plan. The programme involves the rollout of a national fibre-optic backbone network by state-owned company Arsat, which is also planning to enter the mobile telephony market under the brand ‘Libre.ar’.
