Net 1 upgrades IP voice systems ahead of expansion

17 Sep 2013

Swedish CDMA-based mobile broadband operator Net 1 has deployed Metaswitch’s ‘Perimeta’ Session Border Controller (SBC) to secure the delivery of enhanced voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) services, as part of a plan to expand the geographic reach of its voice services. Metaswitch says that Perimeta is the first SBC architected for network functions virtualization (NFV), and is designed for flexibility and security, with options for integrated or distributed signaling and media deployments, which can all be scaled independently as distinct components, which it adds can dramatically reduce deployment costs as networks grow and services expand. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that Net 1 has almost blanket coverage of Sweden’s population and large swathes of remote territory with its CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A-based mobile broadband internet/data network, but it is a fledgling player in the voice market.
