French-US telecoms vendor Alcatel-Lucent has signed a EUR2.3 million (USD3.1 million) contract with Libya Telecom & Technology (LTT) for the deployment of an ADSL2 network that will account for 120,000 new broadband lines. According to the Libya Herald the project will grant connectivity to a number of locations currently lacking broadband coverage, including: Sousa, Juba, Jardinah, Rigdaleen, Rahibat, Timmenhent, Samnu, Zighan, Al-Mayah, Abu-Issa, Tamzin, Jebel Owainat and Traghin. The rollout is expected to take around nine months to complete.

Last month, Alca-Lu won a contract to extend and upgrade the fixed line incumbent Hatif Libya’s wireline network south of Tripoli and in the Western Mountains.
