French media group Vivendi has announced plans to demerge its telecoms unit SFR from its media businesses by setting up two separate companies. Under the restructuring plan, the conglomerate will establish a new international media group based in France, while French telco SFR will gain greater freedom in terms of its overall strategy and partnership development. The final decision on the potential spin-off will be taken in early 2014, at the next shareholder meeting. In other news, the chairman of the Supervisory board, Jean-Rene Fourtou, has also appointed Vivendi’s largest shareholder Vincent Bollore as the new vice chairman of the Supervisory board. According to Reuters, Mr Bollore commented: ‘I think the demerger is an attractive project and it has my total support’, adding that he would remain a shareholder in the two companies after the split.
