12 Sep 2013

Telkom South Africa is in the process of informing its customers that it is discontinuing its WiMAX and Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) services, and also intends to phase out its fixed (copper wire) services in certain areas, moving users to fixed-wireless solutions instead. DECT technology is primarily used in home and small office systems, but is also available in many PBX systems for medium and large businesses. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Telkom’s WiMAX user base stood at just 3,218 as at 31 March 2013 (most recent data).
