Myanmar Post and Telecommunication (MPT) is involved in partnership talks with a number of international telecom firms, the Myanmar Times reports. MPT’s managing director U Aung Maw commented that the operator will split from the ministry and is now involved ‘in the preparation process, discussing a joint venture agreement with a foreign giant.’ The director did not name the potential partner, but noted that it had held discussions with operators from France, Singapore and Japan and elsewhere. The government is reportedly keen to sign up a new investor in the telco to make the company competitive in time for the launch of incoming rivals Ooredoo and Telenor.
