GSM-R consortium given EUR117m contract

A GSM-R wireless communications network for the Slovenian railway system will be built under a EUR117 million (USD155 million) contract awarded to Kapsch CarrierCom, Slovenian telecoms equipment manufacturer Iskratel and construction firm GH Holding. Slovenia’s Ministry of Infrastructure awarded the rollout contract which stipulates building the GSM-R network on track spanning 1,200km by the end of 2015, while Kapsch will also be responsible for maintenance and servicing of the system for five years. The project is supported by the European Union’s Cohesion Fund.
