Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan eye end to roaming rates

11 Sep 2013

The Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEc) is looking at ending cross-border roaming surcharges across its member states Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, the Prime business news agency has reported. The idea was floated by Minister for Competition Nurlan Aldabergenov at a EurAsEc forum in Irkutsk, in a move that mirrors European Union (EU) objectives. Although no deadline has been set for implementing the change, he does not expect the plans to take effect for at least three years. At this juncture it is unclear as to whether fellow member states Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are likely to be included in the arrangement.
