Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (LRTC, also known as Telecentras), which provides WiMAX services under the brand MEZON, has announced the launch of a new network rollout phase to increase capacity and expand coverage to new areas. Starting this autumn, the state-owned operator will begin deployment of its WiMAX services in a number of small towns and villages, including Baisogaloje, Karmelavoje, Kavarske, Kazlu rudoje, Miklusenuose, Papileje, Tryskiuose, Tirksliuose, Tytuvenuose, Vabalninke, Valuose, Vieksniuose, Vilkaviskyje and Zagareje, among others. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that LRTC launched its MEZON mobile WiMAX service in Vilnius in early March 2009, and quickly went on to deploy networks in Panevezys, Klaipeda, Siauliai and the second largest city Kaunas. Since then, services have been expanded to around 100 cities, towns and villages, representing 70% of the population.
