11 Sep 2013

Latvian cableco Baltcom has inked a deal to purchase rival internet service provider (ISP) IZZI for an undisclosed price, the company announced in a statement yesterday. Under the terms of the deal, Baltcom and IZZI will operate as separate legal entities and will continue to offer their existing services at their current rates. Commenting on the deal, Baltcom’s chairman Vojko Rovere said that the biggest beneficiaries of the deal are consumers, with IZZI customers gaining access to 250Mbps broadband speeds and the option to bundle telecoms services with electricity provision. Rovere added that: ‘The transaction will allow us to expand the coverage of Baltcom’s telecommunications infrastructure by approximately 30% and [enable us to] offer a wider variety of services, thus ensuring further growth by strengthening Baltcom’s position in the market.’
