Peter Cohen, owner of US-based investment firm the Cowen Group, has revealed that Italian WiMAX provider Linkem intends to roll out coverage to 90% of the country by 2016. The telecoms veteran, who made his name with Omnitel (now Vodafone Italy), made the claim in an interview with online journal Daily Focus. He added that the Cowen Group has invested more than EUR200 million (USD264.1 million) in Linkem since 2006.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Linkem currently provides coverage to 31% of the population via 1,200 WiMAX base transceiver stations (BTS), and had notched up 129,300 subscribers by 8 May 2013 (most recent data).
