MPT to roll out temporary 4G network for SEA Games

Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) will install temporary 4G networks at the venues for the SEA Games in Mandalay, Yangon, Naypyitaw and Ngwe Saung Beach, Burma News International writes. The networks will be installed with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Kyaw Soe Win, general manager of MPT was quoted as saying: ‘The JICA offered to provide Myanmar 4G internet service during discussions between the Japanese and Myanmar government on the project. Subsequently, MPT and JICA have jointly invited tenders from interested bidders to supply telecom equipment. The successful bidder will be selected officially and they will install the internet network system in Myanmar.’ Long Term Evolution (LTE) services will only be available for the duration of the games. The network will consist of 28 base stations in Naypyitaw, 17 in Yangon, four in Mandalay and one in Ngwe Saung Beach.
