Free (Iliad) reports 78% surge in profit

French telecommunications company Iliad Group has published its financial results for the first half of 2013, reporting consolidated revenues of EUR1.829 billion (USD2.42 billion), a 27% increase on the EUR1.444 billion reported in 1H12. The growth was mainly attributed to sustained business development reported by both landline and mobile operations. The group’s profit surged by 78% year-on-year to EUR141.8 million from EUR79.6 million in 1H12. In the period under review, Iliad’s EBITDA also increased by 40% to EUR586.0 million from EUR417.3 million, propelled by the rise in profitability achieved by the landline business and a EUR54 million contribution from the company’s mobile business.

In operational terms, the group’s total mobile customer base reached 6.795 million by 30 June 2013, corresponding to almost 1.5 million net additions in the first half of 2013. The number of broadband subscribers also increased by 7.2% to 5.518 million from 5.147 million reported in 1H12, with more than 154,000 new subscribers during the period.
