Chinese technology vendor Huawei is in line to supply equipment for three out of the four mobile licensees in Myanmar. Local press reports suggest that the supplier has now signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with state-backed incumbent Myanmar Posts and Telecommunication (MPT), Yatanarpon Teleport and recent licence winner Telenor. Telenor is also sourcing some equipment from Ericsson and Wipro. It is thought formal contracts could be announced with the trio of operators next month. The country’s fourth unified concession owner – Ooredoo of Qatar – has yet to announce its equipment partner.
