Japan’s telecoms regulator the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has granted a temporary licence to local broadband operator eAccess to trial a 1700MHz Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the city of Takamatsu, situated in the Kagawa prefecture. According to a press release, the company has already been assigned 2×5MHz paired blocks in the 1744.9MHz-1749.9MHz/1839.9MHz-1844.9MHz bands and 2×15MHz paired blocks in the 1749.9MHz-1764.9MHz/1844.9MHz-1859.9MHz bands to conduct its field trials, which will run until mid-October 2013. eAccess plans to use carrier aggregation (CA) technology to achieve downlink speeds of 150Mbps and 300Mbps with 2×2 multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) configuration and 4×4 MIMO configurations, respectively.
