Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecoms startup of petrochemical giant Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has applied for a unified licence, the Economic Times writes. The unified licence would replace Jio’s existing broadband wireless access (BWA) concessions and allow the telco to offer a full suite of telecoms services, including voice communications. Jio is currently rolling out a nationwide 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network and aims to launch commercial services in 2014/2015. As previously noted by CommsUpdate, Jio was assigned a block of 10,000 mobile numbers – 4,000 each in Delhi and Mumbai and 2,000 in Jamnagar – in April this year to begin technical trials.
