AIS scores an own goal with overloaded football app

Thai mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) has been forced to suspend registrations to a new mobile app which gives subscribers access to live updates of English Premier League football matches. According to a report from Cellular News, more than 200,000 people have so far signed up for the service, and the company’s servers crashed on Saturday evening when users tried to access live match information as the new Premier League season kicked off. AIS says it has upgraded its servers to cope with the demand in future and it intends to reopen registrations for the football app within the next few days. It also said that users will have the first month’s fee waived as compensation for the problems experienced on Saturday.
